Club News, Event Reports

Hello, Been away- Hope everyone enjoyed the very windy Dorset Delight– looks to have been another great team work day with some good results. Thanks Julie for writing the day up – I still havent seen any pics did anyone get any? I was also watching the second event of the season in the New Forest which was in Fritham on Saturday. Nearly 200 people turned out on what was a wild and wooly day so I hear, this is when the going gets tough and the tough get going. Results showed some top efforts from Jolyon there, 6/53 on the blue. With Lyra also coming 6/56 on the Green with a NC run. Good preparation for our Club Champs 03 November have you got your entry in yet?

Coming up this weekend I am coaching in the New Forest for my old club SMOC, get in touch if you are interested in coming. Then monday- Wessex Night League starts again! Ive planned another Poole special with new locations, such a lot of places on that map of the island and as I always say even though its a few years old now one of the best Urban Maps in the U.K. So the event base is at the Spoons on the Quay, we will be at the back signing on and I hope we shall have 40+ on the night, the fast boys will be racing hard for all controls in a straight score, with over 10 KM distance for them, also plenty of good points to be won for the Handicap league- always a top competition as the season develops. Tell your friends and we look forward to seeing our new members in their first Night Races, always plenty of help available you just need a good head torch, hi viz and plenty of energy.

Club members make England Debut

WSX OC members, Ian Middlebrook & John Cook are set to make their England debut at the Yorkshire Marathon on  20th October. They qualified for the Age Group Masters team following strong runs at the Bournemouth Marathon last year. They will compete for England in their respective age groups in a match against the Celtic Nations.

Also, they ran in the Bournemouth Half Marathon on 6th Oct (hence not at our DD event) This was an England half marathon team qualifier with the top 4 in each age category qualifying. They were both selected and will represent England in March 2020 at the Fleet Half Marathon. Well done guys! Orienteers that can do distance!

Lastly heres a section of map I got off the internet before doing a hike from Positano on the Amalfi coast in my recent Italy trip. You can see its called ‘Walk of the Gods’ and up on the Amalfi coast it feels like youre up above the world. 1700 steps take you up to the start of the trail in Nocelle, then theres plenty challenge on the cliffs from therein, I though you might like to see the contours, it was a treat to hike and share the contour interpretation with Lauren, sunday coming I have a contour interpretation activity on the coaching, as you know its the most advanced level of navigation skill- that we are all continually improving.

Tuesday training tonight, come along- motivating and essential if youre to be up there in the standings this season.
