The following comes courtesy of Chris Branford (WIM) as I couldn’t have written it better myself!

Sunday was a bit of a disaster with the ground conditions forcing the cancellation of the Compass Sport Cup and Trophy competition being organised by QO.  Attempts were made to schedule it in the near future but came up against too many other major events.  So at present we are waiting to see when it can be held with the strong possibility that it may be as late as September or early October.  The final is on Sunday 21st October on Cannock Chase in the Midlands – so it has to be before that date!  Every other region managed to hold their rounds – so we know who we would be up against if we get through to the final.  Subject to confirmation of the provisional results on various club sites the qualifiers for the Trophy are  SUFFOC, EPOC, GO, INT/CLYD + BL, SROC, POTOC which we compete in.  Some areas have more than one qualifier as it depends on the number of clubs competing at a round as to how many qualify.  So just our round to be held at some stage.

The next WIM event is the monthly Monday event at Fordingbridge on Monday 9th April.  This year WIM, WSX, SARUM and SOC are organising a Wessex Region Summer Series and this will be the first event of the season.  In all, there will be about 14 events during the summer.  Details for this event are here.  Please email Chris to reserve a map.

These events will have two aims – firstly to give regular orienteers a series of events to take part in during the summer months and secondly to attract newcomers to the sport.  So if you have any friends who are interested in having a go, these events will be to bring them along.
Following on from this there will be two more Wessex Region Summer Series events in April – Five Rivers, Salisbury (SARUM event) on Saturday 14th April and Royal Victoria Country Park, Netley (SOC Event) on Saturday 21st. Full details of the Series are available here.

On Saturday 28th April WIM are organising the WIM/WSX Prize Giving at Blandford Forum – 2pm Start.  This will be preceded by an informal score event round Blandford followed by finger buffet and prize giving.  More details to follow soon.
